Seven Literal Days

Growing up I was taught evolution theory, and I fell for it, poor fool that I was. I joined the Baptist Church in my area in around 1991 and decided to accept that both evolution and creation could co-exist - the seven days stipulated in Genesis were seven millennia (1 day equals 1000 years idea).

Well, around the year 2000 my husband blew everything out of the water. He told me to read the Genesis account all over again. I missed it again, poor fool that I was, I could not see what was right in front of my nose. He read out the pertinent words - the evening and the morning were the first day, the evening and the morning were the second day, etc. The Hebrew words erev (evening) and boker (morning) are clearly there in the text! Seven literal days!

Now, shame on both of us, because it took us both till about 2007 to realise the order of the words, evening is mentioned first, the day starts at sunset, not sunrise! Sunset to sunset is how Israel (Middle east) reckons their days till today. We adjusted our calendar from them on (with a lot of study) to our Creator's calendar of the seven day week with Sabbath starting sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, and we incorporated all the feasts detailed in scripture. We have never regretted it.
