Book of Enoch Analysis

I have wrestled with The Book of Enoch in the past couple of weeks and have found it unsettling and inaccurate in its details (such as the giants were 3000 cubits tall - 10 x size of Noah's ark, more than 1350m tall!). Never has there been mention in canonical scripture of the angels Raphael and Phanuel. "Highest of the angels" named Metatron has never been mentioned in canonical scripture either.

We don't have any original language Book of Enoch available in popular circulation: we only have later translations in language forms which didn't exist back then. YHUH preserved the scripture we know, so if the Book of Enoch were His Word, He'd have preserved it in the original languages, just as He has all His other scripture, right? So, what about the Aramaic Enoch Scroll?

The Aramaic Enoch Scroll is a non-published, complete copy of the Book of Enoch that is rumored to be in the possession of private investors. There is no proof of its existence, but according to the former chief editor of the official Dead Sea Scrolls editorial team, John Strugnell (deceased 2007), the scroll is well preserved, and microfilmed.

No proof of its existence except the word of a dead man? Mmh.

Dating a book depends on the use of language at the time, NOT on the age of the written medium. So if you don't have the original-language texts, you cannot validate the book. Again, because in translation, updated terminology will be used for the contemporary audience. YHUH never gives a book you cannot validate, because then in effect He'd be LYING. He can't demand you test something but then deny you what you need for testing! If you don't have the original-language texts to check, you have no clue whether you are getting the TRUTH. We have no 'counterfeit detector' to verify the Book of Enoch. ALL the texts are in translation, and all of them in languages which are post-Flood and most have variations in them. So, if YHUH really had Enoch write a Book we were supposed to get, then He'd have preserved it, words Enoch himself actually wrote, not a translation.

Next problem is Book of Enoch's contradictory account of same things Bible already explains. For example, "Enoch" versus the Bible account of the Flood in Gen 6 seems very contradictory.

First of all, it appears to be Noah supposedly writing this portion.

66.3 And I came out from before Enoch. 67.1 And in those days, the word of the Lord came to me, and he said to me: "Noah, behold; your lot has come up before me, a lot without reproach, a lot of love and uprightness. 67.2 And now the Angels are making a wooden structure, and when the Angels come out from that task, I will put my hand on it, and keep it safe. And a change shall take place so that the dry ground may not remain empty.

Angels and YHUH built the Ark? But scripture says it took Noah around 100 years to build the Ark:

Gen 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with YHUH.

Gen 6:10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Gen 5:32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Gen 6:3 And YHUH said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

The clock started ticking before the flood was to arrive from this point.

Gen 6:11 The earth also was corrupt before YHUH, and the earth was filled with violence.

Gen 6:12 And YHUH looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

Gen 6:13 And YHUH said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Gen 6:14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

Gen 6:15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

Gen 6:16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.

Gen 7:5 And Noah did according unto all that YHUH commanded him.

Gen 7:6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.

Gen 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of shamayim (heaven) were opened.

Why the difference?

Also, there are differences in the writing style, and given from different people’s viewpoints, suggestive of different authors, so maybe part of the book is valid, but part is corrupted (adulterated). At one point it appears Noah is writing, for example. That’s who wrote the passage above, starting: 66.3 And I came out from before Enoch.

Also, I have a serious problem with the following referencing Noah’s birth and his not being a normal, human baby, as follows:

106.1 And after those days my son Methuselah chose a wife for his son Lamech and she became pregnant by him and bore a son. 106.2 And his body was white like snow, and red like the flower of a rose, and the hair of his head was white like wool. And his eyes were beautiful and when he opened his eyes he made the whole house bright, like the Sun, so that the whole house was exceptionally bright. 106.3 And when he was taken from the hand of the midwife he opened his mouth and spoke to the Lord of Righteousness. 106.4 And his father Lamech was afraid of him, and fled, and went to his father Methuselah. 106.5 And he said to him: "I have begotten a strange son; he is not like a man but is like the children of the Angels of Heaven, of a different type and not like us. And his eyes are like the rays of the Sun and his face glorious. 106.6 And it seems to me that he is not sprung from me but from the Angels and I am afraid that something extraordinary may be done on the earth in his days.

Noah is not described anywhere in accepted scripture as being anything but a mortal man.

The varied forms of the Book of Enoch we have are awfully clever it's way smart in some of its usages, particularly with respect to allusive play on Bible verses. Which matters, because this Book of Enoch, if it were valid, would actually be the first-written book of the Bible. So, it shouldn't be alluding to other Bible verses which didn't yet exist.

Most importantly: if there was a genuine Book of Enoch Moses would have mentioned it, for then Moses would not have been the first one to write scripture.

So, maybe it is true that one verse from the Book of Enoch versions got preserved.

Jude 1:14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Master cometh with ten thousands of his saints

So, something of the story may be true but YHUH didn't have Moses write scripture on Enoch's ministry. Which would have been necessary, if a true Book of Enoch were out there but lost. Bible always acknowledges other accepted scripturally true writings. Jude quotes Enoch himself; Jude doesn't say he's referring to a quote in some Book of Enoch. This quote needn’t have been in a book. Read Genesis, see how much Moses quotes people he never knew. The Greek phrase using legei can be used to quote from a book or from a person. "It stands written" is definitely intended to mean the person is quoting from a book. But Jude doesn't use that expression. In the Greek all that Jude uses is "legei". That's nowhere near as strong as "it stands written" (latter is always a quote from a BOOK, "gegrapti"). Greek "legei" can be used for indirect discourse, direct discourse, quoting a person's remark. Not necessarily, some book. But you can't say the Bible endorses a book if only one quote in the entire Bible Jude 1:14 is from Enoch. And Bible doesn't claim that there is a book of Enoch anywhere. Further, no other quotes are attributed to Enoch anywhere in the Bible.

Let us remember that Enoch was rejected as a canonical book. If Jude quoted Enoch as a person is doesn’t mean we can use the whole book to justify views on fallen angels, spirits in prison and the Nephilim or any other subject.

We should compare scripture with scripture (ie. the inspired writings as contained within the canonical books), YHUH's Word WITH YHUH's Word. This also applies to the pseudepigraphical  writings which are not canonical.

I found these videos below which portray a fairly balanced view:

Please note that I refer to our Creator as YHUH (Yahuah) and His son as Yahushua and I do not refer to Jesus or God and such terminology - the content is otherwise well put together :-)

One last important note - Freemasons have posted this article where they venerate Enoch and explain their interest here:

Hands off Israel - it's YHUH's

Let's see what YHUH says:

Deuteronomy 11: 11-12

But the land, where you go to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinks water of the rain of shamayim: A land which YHUH Elohim cares for: the eyes of YHUH your Elohim are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.

The land drinks in water as it has been found to have limestone aquifers located at the foothills, the centre of the land.

Deuteronomy is part of the first five books written by Moses, so readers of Quran beware - as I have read as follows:

Tawrat (also Tawrah or Taurat; Arabic: توراة‎‎) is the Arabic word for the Torah. Muslims believe it was a holy book of Islam given by God to Musa (Moses). The Hebrew word for their scripture, the Torah (also known as the Five Books of Moses or the Pentateuch) means instructions, that is why Tawrat does not refer to the entire Tanakh or Old Testament. As per Quran prophets governed by the Tawrat.

Lo! We did reveal the At-Taurah, wherein is guidance and a light, by which the prophets who surrendered (unto Allah) judged the Jews, and the rabbis and the priests (judged) by such of Allah's Scripture as they were bidden to observe, and thereunto were they witnesses. So fear not mankind, but fear Me. And barter not My revelations for a little gain. Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed: such are disbelievers.— Quran, sura 5 (Al-Ma'ida), ayat 44

Israel also is said to be the centre of the land masses, perhaps that is why it is referred to as the apple of YHUH's eye:

Zech 2:8  For thus says YHUH of hosts; after the splendour has he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that touches you touches the apple of his eye.

He watches all the time, as follows:

Psalm 121:4  Behold, He that keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

There is no man-made solution it seems:

Zech 12:3  And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

What are we to do?

Psalm 122:6  Pray for the shalom (peace) of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

YHUH will only allow His will to be done so people squabbling over the land should always keep Him in mind.

Here is a cool look at what Scripture states in Psalms:

Darwin who?

Isn't it time we updated our textbooks, etc. with all the new discoveries made since Darwin's theory of evolution so we're no longer stuck in the 1800s?

Evolutionists always fall back on the rocks being millions of years old and they cram everything else into that beginning point to fit in. Who cares how old the rocks are? Genesis states YHUH began our planet's creation process by separating shamayim (pw heaven) from earth (our planet). He had to have had the building blocks already there to be able to separate them, so by then already the "earth" could have been millions of years old. It does not state when YHUH decided to start our creation upon our planet - millions of years could have already passed without us.

Creationists know only about creation's timeframe of 6,000 years from following genealogies and lifetimes of documented generations of people as stated in scripture. The oldest tree existing today, Methuselah, is said to be 4853 years old. Mm, funny, this is in the region of time when the worldwide flood with Noah building his ark happened. Life got back on track after the flood and therefore there are no older trees growing today. Please watch below:

Rightly handling the Word of Truth

Great things never came from comfort zones - look forward to a future you actively choose, don't just settle. Choose life:

Deu 30:15  See, I have set before you this day life and good, and death and evil;
Deu 30:16  In that I command you this day to love YHUH your Elohim, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you may live and multiply: and YHUH your Elohim shall bless you in the land where you go to possess it.
Deu 30:17  But if your heart turn away, so that you will not hear, but will be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
Deu 30:18  I denounce unto you this day that you will surely perish, and that you will not prolong your days upon the land, where you pass over Jordan to go to possess it.
Deu 30:19  I call shamayim (heaven) and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live:
Deu 30:20  That you may love YHUH your Elohim, and that you may obey his voice, and that you may cleave unto Him: for He is thy life, and the length of thy days:

2 Timothy 2:15

Do your best to present yourself to YHUH as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

Study YHUH's Word (Bible) and grow in your ability to handle it rightly!

Was Melchizedek a man or Mashiak?

Was Melchizedek a man or a type of Mashiak?

Was Melchizedek actually Yehoshua in a pre-incarnate state?

Melchizedek shows up in just three books of the Bible: Genesis, Psalms and Hebrews, and nowhere else.

Melchizedek In Genesis

The first one, Genesis 14:18-20, tells us that Melchizedek was a Sovereign and a Priest.

Gen 14:18  And Melchizedek Sovereign of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the Priest of the most high Elohim.
19  And he baruched him, and said, Baruched be Abram of the most high Elohim, possessor of shamayim and erets:
20  And baruched be the most high Elohim, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And Abram gave him tithes of all.

He and Yehoshua are the only individuals the Bible says were both a Sovereign (Gen. 14:18; Matt. 27:11)

Mat 27:11  And Yehoshua stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the Sovereign of the Yahudi (pagan:Jews)? And Yehoshua said unto him, Thou sayest.

And a Priest (Gen. 14:18; Heb. 2:17).

Heb 2:17  Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be chesed and a faithful High Priest in things pertaining to YHUH, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

Genesis 14:18-20 tells us that the Sovereign of Salem, Melchizedek, was a priest of the Most High Elohim. He was not a pagan priest, but a priest of the one and only YHUH. Melchizedek must have enjoyed the name Sovereign of Salem since the name of Salem means “Shalom.” It is the old name for Jerusalem (Ps. 76:2). If we only read Genesis, we would assume he was a man.

Melchizedek In Hebrews

But the book of Hebrews creates a question about him when it says the following:
Heb 7:1  For this Melchisedec, Sovereign of Salem, priest of the most high Elohim, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and baruched him;
Heb 7:2  To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation Sovereign of righteousness, and after that also Sovereign of Salem, which is, Sovereign of shalom;
Heb 7:3  Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of Elohim; abideth a priest continually.

We must ask ourselves, what does scripture mean by “Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of Elohim, he abides a priest perpetually?” At a first reading it sounds like Melchizedek is not human but supernatural. But the Greek language helps us unscramble this passage. The Greek word for “made like” is APHOMOIOO. It is a rare Greek word and occurs in the Bible only here in Hebrews 7:3. The word means “to copy or model.” The word was used to refer to a woodcarver who made a piece of wood to look “like” an ordinary animal. The wood was not made into an animal but looked like the animal. In the same way, Melchizedek was not Yehoshua but he is like Yehoshua. He is a type or precursor of Yehoshua.

The book of Hebrews was written to show its readers that Yehoshua became our High Priest. In order to be a Yahudi (pagan:Jewish) High Priest, a male had to first be a Yahudi Priest. YHUH said that a Priest had to be born of parents who were Levites.

Num 18:6  And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for YHUH, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Num 18:7  Therefore thou and thy sons with thee shall keep your priest's office for every thing of the altar, and within the vail; and ye shall serve: I have given your Priest's office unto you as a service of gift: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

This was the first requirement. A Yahudi priest had to be a Levite. Therefore, the Ruach HaKodesh needed to show that YHUH recognized someone else in the Torah whose family were not Levite, someone whose family history did not go back to Aaron. Melchizedek was a high priest and he had no family history. Scripture did not record Melchizedek’s family history or genealogy. From an official viewpoint – from scripture – Melchizedek did not have a father or a mother. He did not have a family history. He was not a Levite. This is the point!

Heb 7:6  But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and baruched him that had the promises.

He was a Priest without a Levitical family history.

YHUH had recognized him as a real High Priest and the readers could see that Psalm 110:4 agreed with Genesis.

Psa 110:4 YHUH hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest forever (after the order of) like Melchizedek.

If these Yahudi readers really believed the scriptures this was a powerful statement. Yehoshua could be a High Priest and not be a Levite. Yehoshuah's genealogy via his adoptive father Yosef was traced back to King David.

Mat 1:1  The book of the generation of Yehoshua, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Mat 1:6  And Jesse begat David the Sovereign; and David the Sovereign begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
Mat 1:16 And Jacob begat Yosef the husband of Miriam, of whom was born Yehoshua, who is called Mashiak.

Rom 1:2  (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the set apart scriptures,)
Rom 1:3  Concerning his Son Yehoshua our Mashiak, which was assembled (adopted) with the seed of David according to the flesh;
Rom 1:4  And declared to be the Son of YHUH with power, according to the spirit of purity, by the resurrection from the dead:
Rom 1:5  By whom we have received chesed and apostleship, for obedience to the emunah among all nations, for his name:

Heb 7:14  For it is evident that Yehoshua sprang out of Judah (through Yosef's adoption); of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

Interestingly, however, Yehoshua's mother, Miriam (pagan:Mary), is referred to here being related to Elisabeth, descendent of Aaron:

Luke 1:5  There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

Luke 1:36  And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

It just happens that in Scripture more emphasis was put on the Patriarchal line than on the mother - but this would explain why Yehoshua was quite at home in the Heykal (pagan:Temple) amongst the Pharisees and Priests of the time!

Luk 2:46  And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the Heykal, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
Luk 2:47  And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
Luk 2:48  And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
Luk 2:49  And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
Luk 2:50  And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
Luk 2:51  And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
Luk 2:52  And Yehoshua increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with YHUH and man.

Heb 7:15  And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedek there ariseth another Priest,
Heb 7:16  Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

At the end of Hebrews 7:3 we read that Melchizedek was “a priest perpetually” and in Hebrews 7:23-24 we see that Yehoshua is a priest “forever.”

What is the difference?

The answer is in the Greek again. The root Greek word for “perpetually” is DIENEKES and the root Greek word for “forever” is AION. DIENEKES means “continually” or “without interruption” and AION means “eternal.” AION is a stronger word than DIENEKES. This means that Melchizedek is not Yehoshua. Yehoshua will live forever but Melchizedek will only be a priest “without interruption” – no recorded death! There cannot be two High Priests which assures us that at some point Melchizedek dies a natural death as a man.

Heb 7:24  But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

Hebrews 7:24 also tells us that Yehoshua is a high priest “permanently” or APARABATOS. APARABATOS means that Yehoshua’s high priesthood is “immutable.” This is never said of Melchizedek. Melchizedek will be superseded but not Yehoshua. They are not identical – they are only like one another.

Hebrews 7:4 also says that Melchizedek was a man:

Now observe how great this MAN was to whom Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth of the choicest spoils.

Not to mention, it even mentions he dies as do all other earthly Priests except Yehoshua:

Heb 7:8  And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

Not only was he a man, but he was great. Melchizedek had a great reputation. He was a righteous Priest-Sovereign. How often does scripture talk about a man being great? Abraham recognized him and submitted to him. He was a sovereign of a city with people who followed him. This is not a previous appearance of Yahushau since He did not live here on earth as a man until His birth thousands of years later. But Melchizedek is an example to us, an example that we are to be righteous even as Yehoshua is righteous. Melchizedek knew of the bread of life to come according to YHUH's will (Yehoshua) - therefore he brings to Abraham bread and wine and Yehoshua later breaks bread and gives the wine to drink in remembrance of His broken body and shed blood for remission of sins. And Yehoshua has made righteousness attainable by washing us in His blood and sending us the Comforter to guide us, with an added incentive to attain everlasting life as He did when He conquered death. YHUH wants this as our goal in our life – to follow in Yehoshua's footsteps.

1 Thess 4:3  For this is the will of YHUH, even your purification...
1 Pet 1:16  Because it is written, Be ye set apart; for I am set apart.

Conclusion:
Who was Melchizedek? He was a man whom YHUH used as a type of Mashiak. He appeared on the pages of scripture to show us thousands of years later that Yehoshua is our High Priest, but even more special due to his suffering as a man:

Heb 4:15  For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin (Torah transgression).
