Ten Commandments Apply Today, Not Abolished, Especially 7th Day Sabbath

Is there any evidence in the Brit Chadasha (Renewed Covenant / NT) before or after Yahushua’s resurrection that even one of the Ten Commandments was abolished? The most commonly attacked Commandment is the Fourth Commandment which defines it is YHUH (Yahuah) we love and worship as follows:

Exodus 20:
8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it set apart.
9 Six days you will labour, and do all your work:
10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of YHUH (Yahuah) thy Elohim: in it you will not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor the visitor that is within your gates:
11 For in six days made YHUH (Yahuah) made shamayim (heaven) and land, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the YHUH (Yahuah) baruched (blessed) the Sabbath day, and set it apart.

We find Sha’ul (Paul) keeping the Sabbath as his custom was since childhood, in the synagogues and Temple. A custom is something you do religiously and without failure. Notice in the following verse that this is a Jewish synagogue and that Jews have all through history, without change, worshipped on Saturday as they still do today.

Acts 17:
1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:
2 And Sha’ul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three Sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures
4 My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews;

This is proof conclusive of Saturday Sabbath keeping AFTER Yahushuah’s resurrection. It was not only Paul's custom and example but that of Yahushua also and He is our perfect example.

Luke 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

Today’s “Christians” seem to think that everything starts fresh in the Brit Chadasha (NT) but this could not be further from the truth. Just because the translators divided the Bible into two books called the Old and New Testaments does not mean everything starts again. Absolutely everything from the Tanakh (Old Testament) continues into the Brit Chadasha (New Testament) as if it was just one book not divided, and the only changes between them are what we are specifically told has changed. Thus you have to look to see if there is an unmistakable instruction that says a Commandment is gone or changed. If scripture is silent then it still exists. Are we told the moral law has ended or any part of it, such as the Sabbath? No! To the contrary, Scripture is clear that all Ten Commandments remain. YHUH (Yahuah) does not work on assumptions and especially on something as important as His Moral law such as His Sabbath. If a Commandment of YHUH (Yahuah) was changed then Scripture would highlight the change to us.

In any case, the following Brit Chadasha scriptures listed after each of the Ten Commandments, confirm either explicitly or by example, that Yahushua and the Apostles viewed all the Ten Commandments as a necessary part of set apart living. You can also use the table further below if you prefer an easier way to compare the Tanakh and the Brit Chadasha using just a single scripture example.
First Commandment: You will have no other Elohim (gods) before Me.

Matthew 4:10
Then said Yahushua unto him, Get you behind me, Satan: for it is written, You will worship YHUH (Yahuah) Elohim, and him only will you serve.

Matthew 6:24
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve YHUH (Yahuah) and mammon (avarice (deified), worldly lusts).

Matthew 22:37-38
Yahushua said to him, You will love YHUH (Yahuah) Elohim with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.

Luke 4:8;
And Yahushua answered and said to him, Get you behind me, Satan: for it is written, You will worship YHUH (Yahuah) Elohim, and him only will you serve.

Revelation 14:7.
Saying with a loud voice, Fear YHUH (Yahuah), and give honour to him; for the hour of his judgement is come: and worship him that made shamayim, and land, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

Second Commandment: You will not worship Idols.

Acts 15:20
But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and...

Acts 17:16
Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his ruach (spirit) was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

Acts 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of YHUH, we ought not to think that He is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

1 Corinthians 5:10-11
Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must you needs go out of the world.
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one do not eat.

1 Corinthians 6:9
Know you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of YHUH? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters…

1 Corinthians 10:
7 Neither be you idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

1 Corinthians 12:2
You know that you were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as you were led.

2 Corinthians 6:16
And what agreement has the temple of YHUH with idols? For you are the temple of the living Elohim (God); as YHUH has said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be my people.

Galatians 5:19-20
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry...

Ephesians 5:5
For this you know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Yahushua and of YHUH (Yahuah).

Colossians 3:5
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

1 Thessalonians 1:9
For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how you turned to YHUH from idols to serve the living and true Elohim.

1 Peter 4:3
For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries.

1 John 5:21
Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

Revelation 2:14
But I have a few things against you, because you have there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

Revelation 9:20
And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Revelation 22:15
For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters...

Third Commandment: You will not take the name of YHUH (Yahuah) in vain (blaspheme).

Matthew 5:33-37
Again, you have heard that it has been said by them of old time, you will not forswear yourself, but will perform unto YHUH your oaths:
But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by shamayim; for it is YHUH's throne:
Nor by erets (earth); for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
Neither will you swear by your head, because you can not make one hair white or black.
But let your communication be, Yes, yes; No, no: for whatsoever is more than these comes of evil.

1 Timothy 6:1
Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of YHUH and his doctrine be not blasphemed.

James 2:7.
Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which you are called?

Fourth Commandment: Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it set apart.

And it came to pass also on another Sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught:

Acts 13:
14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and sat down.
42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.
44 And the next Sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of YHUH.

**********

YHUH (Yahuah) inspired James to write that EVERY point of the law is essential. Not only do we find all Ten Commandments in the Brit Chadasha but we also find all the Ten Commandments covered in this one verse without quoting them individually, because according to the book of James, if someone breaks any one of them, he is guilty of breaking them all.

nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within
your gates: For in six days YHUH made shamayim and earth, the sea, and
all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore YHUH
baruched (blessed) the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.”

Ten Commandments in
Brit Chadasha

1. “You shall worship YHUH your
Elohim (God), and him only will you serve.” Matthew 4:10

2. “Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.”
1 Corinthians 10:14

3. “That the name of YHUH (Yahuah) and his doctrine be not blasphemed.”
1 Timothy 6:1

4. “For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day as follows: On
the seventh day YHUH (Yahuah) rested from all his works, There remains,
therefore, a Sabbath rest for the people of YHUH (Yahuah). For the one
who enters YHUH (Yahuah)'s rest has himself rested from his own works,
just as YHUH (Yahuah) did from his.” ISV Hebrews 4:4, 9-10.

5. “Honour your father and your mother.” Matthew 19:19

6. “You shall not murder.” Romans 13:9

7. “You shall not commit
adultery.” Matthew 19:18

8. “You shall not steal.”
Romans 13:9

9. “You shall not bear false
witness.” Romans 13:9

10. “You shall not covet.” Romans 7:7

So is the evidence conclusive that all Ten Commandments still stand or do scriptures indicate that we can now live in wilful deliberate sin? We are indeed saved by the chesed (grace) of YHUH (Yahuah) through faith in Mashiak, but is this a license to continue in sin? Did Yahushua die on the execution stake to pay the penalty for our sin so we could go on living in sin? The above scriptures should leave no doubt as to the answers to these questions, but just for extra clarity here are the answers put simply again by scripture alone covering the main areas of confusion and deception.

First we need to know what the Scriptural definition of sin is.

1Jn_3:4 Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

1Jn_3:8 He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of YHUH was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Romans 4:15. If there is no law then there can be no sin and if there is no sin then there is no need for a Saviour.

Did Sha’ul (Paul) say we can sin now that we are under chesed (grace) which would therefore prove the law was abolished?

Romans 6:1-2
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that chesed (grace) may abound?
YHUH forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Romans 6:14-15.
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under chesed (grace).
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under chesed? YHUH forbid.

Sha’ul (Paul) demonstrated in Galatians chapters 2, 3 and 4 and Romans 3 that no flesh is justified by the law and that righteousness comes by emunah (faith). Does this therefore mean that the Ten Commandments are now made null and void because of emunah?

Romans 3:31.
Do we then make void the law through emunah? YHUH forbid: yea, we establish the law.

So who is justified before YHUH (Yahuah)?

Romans 2:13.
For not the hearers of the law are just before YHUH, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

Did Yahushua say he came to do away with the law?

Matthew 5:17.
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Did Yahushua say He was going to change the law by even so much as a single letter?

Matthew 5:18
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Luke 16:17.
And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

Did Yahushua say we have to teach the law as well as obey it?

Matthew 5:19.
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of shamayim: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of shamayim.

Does Yahushua say that those who practise lawlessness, i.e. break the Ten Commandments, will enter the kingdom?

Matthew 7:21-23
Not every one that says to me, Master, Master, shall enter into the kingdom of shamayim; but he that does the will of my Father which is in shamayim.
Many will say to me in that day, Master, Master, have we not prophesied in your name? And in your name have cast out devils? And in your name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess to them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.

1 John 2:4.
He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

So what does Yahushua say that one has to do to inherit eternal life?

Matthew 19:16-19.
And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
And he said to him, Why call you me good? there is none good but one, that is YHUH: but if you will enter into life keep the commandments.
He said to him, Which? Yahushua said, You shall do no murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, honour your father and your mother: and, you shall love your neighbour as yourself.

Can we keep just nine of the Ten Commandments and are we judged by obedience to the law?

James 2:10-12
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if you commit no adultery, yet if you kill, you have become a transgressor of the law.
So speak you, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

Matthew 5:18
For truly I say to you, till shamayim and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Luke 16:17.
And it is easier for shamayim and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

So what are the consequences for wilful sin, i.e., wilfully disobeying even ONE of the Ten Commandments?

Hebrews 10:26-29
For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth there remains no more offering for sins,
But a certain fearful looking for of judgement and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
He that despised Moses' law died without chesed under two or three witnesses:
Of how much sorer punishment, suppose you, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden under foot the Son of YHUH, and has counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was cleansed, an unclean thing, and has done despite unto the Spirit of chesed?

Ephesians 5:3, 5.
But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becomes saints;
Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
For this you know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Yahushua and of YHUH (Yahuah).

What are the blessings for not living in wilful sin, i.e. obeying the Ten Commandments in loving obedience?

Revelation 22:14.
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

The answers are indisputable and any other arguments would be in total contradiction to the words of Yahushua, Paul and James, just to name a few. I think Solomon summed it up well with his final conclusion in:

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14.
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear YHUH, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
For YHUH shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Sabbath Keeping Proof in Brit Chadasha

We have already seen that Paul and the Apostles undoubtedly kept the Seventh Day Sabbath but some ask is there any specific references to keeping the Sabbath after Yahushua’s execution and the answer is, yes. Here are just a couple.

In reference to the future destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, Yahushua states in:

Matthew 24:20
And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.

Why would Yahushua say, pray that you don't have to flee on the Sabbath, if we are not keeping it any more? There is no way Yahushua would say this unless the Sabbath was still going to be kept subsequent to His death. This is solid proof of Sabbath keeping after Yahushua’s execution.

The gospel of Luke states in Luke 23:56 that when the body of Mashiak was being prepared by His followers, “they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day according to the Commandment.” Note that Luke wrote this 30-50 years after Yahushua’s execution.

Galatians 3:15
That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Yahushua HaMashiak; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through emunah (faith).
Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulls, or adds thereto.

Any lawyer will tell you that the will and testament of a person CANNOT be changed after the death of a testator.

And Hebrews 9:16-17 states
For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator lives.

Luke of course would also never make a statement like this without telling us of a change on something as important as the Ten Commandments. This would have been the perfect opportunity for Luke to say something but he still states they kept it “according to the Commandment,” and after the Brit Chadasha begun.

The next closest passage to a command for Sabbath-keeping in the Brit Chadasha is found in

Hebrews 4:9.
There remains therefore a rest to the people of YHUH.

In this verse we find the Greek word “sabbatismos. The King James and New King James Version and a few other Bibles render the word as “restwhile the Amplified Bible the ASV, NASB, NIV, RSV and NRSV and several other translations somewhat more correctly render that word as “Sabbath rest. A few Bibles such as the Darby translation transliterate the word as “Sabbatism. Its literal translation however, is “Sabbath observanceand “The Scriptures” translated by The Institute for Scripture Research render it as such while the Thayer dictionary and the Bible in Basic English give the equally literal phrase “Sabbath keeping. So how does the excuse “the Sabbath is now just resting in Yahushuaconstitute “Sabbath observanceor “Sabbath keepingas some claim? And why would you have to be concerned with physically fleeing persecution on the Sabbath day as Yahushua stated when the temple was destroyed in 70 A.D. (Matthew 24:20) if the Sabbath was just resting in Yahushua? Those who are deceived or against the Ten Commandment law of YHUH (Yahuah) had to justify this passage somehow and I guess that was the best explanation they could come up with.

The Sabbath remains a physical rest.

  1. The Greek word for rest in Hebrews 4:9 indisputably refers to a PHYSICAL rest as we have just seen.
  2. When the body of Mashiak was being prepared, Luke says “they rested the Sabbath day according to the Commandment.” (Luke 23:56) The New Covenant began when Yahushua died and yet Luke says they are still physically keeping the Sabbath according to the Commandment. Luke wrote this 30-50 years after the cross.
  3. Isaiah 66:22-23 proves we PHYSICALLY keep the Sabbath in the New Shamayim and Earth.
For as the new shamayim and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, says YHUH, so shall your seed and your name remain.
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, says YHUH.
  1. The words of Yahushua show that everyone was still PHYSICALLY keeping the Sabbath in 70 A.D. (Matthew 24:20)
But pray that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day
  1. The Sabbath cannot be a spiritual rest if one had to worry about PHYSICALLY fleeing on this day.
  2. Our Creator YHUH (Yahuah) knew we needed a PHYSICAL rest at least one day a week and knowing Yahushua does not change that requirement.
  3. YHUH (Yahuah) and His law changes not.
Hebrews 13:8
Yahushua the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Psalms 111:7-8
The works of his hands are truth and judgement; all his commandments are sure.
They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.

Luke 16:17.
And it is easier for shamayim and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

In regard to taking “Sabbatismos” literally, Professor Andrew T. Lincoln, on page 213 in his symposium From Sabbath To The Lord's Day, states, “The use of sabbatismos elsewhere in extant Greek literature gives an indication of its more exact shade of meaning. It is used in Plutarch, De Superstitione 3 (Moralia166A) of Sabbath observance. There are also four occurrences in post canonical literature that are independent of Hebrews 4:9. They are Justin, Dialogue with Trypho 23:3; Epiphanius, Adversus Haereses 30:2:2; Martyrium Petri et Pauli 1; Apostolic Constitutions 2:36:2. In each of these places the term denotes the observance or celebration of the Sabbath. This usage corresponds to the Septuagint usage of the cognate verb sabbatizo (cf. Exodus 16:30; Leviticus. 23:32; 26:34; 2 Chronicles. 36:21). Thus the writer to the Hebrews is saying that since the time of Joshua an observance of the Sabbath rest has been outstanding.

The literal translation then of Hebrews 4:9 is, “Therefore a Sabbath observance has been left behind for the people of YHUH (Yahuah).” The internal evidence of the preceding verses would also indicate that the Sabbath observance mentioned in this verse has to be the Seventh day Sabbath and not Sunday, which did not take on the name the Lord's Day until the 4th Century. In verse 8, the author of Hebrews states, “For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not afterward have spoken of another day.” On first glance in our English translations, the word “another” might give the appearance of a different day. However, in the Greek, there are two words for “another”. “Heteros” means “another of a different kind”, while “allos” means “another of the same kind”. The word used in Hebrews 4:8 is “allos”, indicating a Sabbath day of the same kind as referred to in Hebrews 4:5-8, that is, the seventh-day Sabbath. In verse 7, the author of Hebrews uses the term “certain day”. The Greek word for “certain” is “tis”. It is undoubtedly referencing a specific day and not the general thought of an eternal rest. The force of Hebrews 3:11-4:11 then must be saying that because talmidim look toward the eternal rest of shamayim, the type or shadow of the earthly Sabbath rest still remains or is “left behind”, literally for talmidim to observe. This is very significant in light of the greater context of the book of Hebrews which deals with the entire Aaronic priesthood and its methods of worship as found in the Old Covenant being supplanted by the Melchizedek priesthood of Yahushua HaMashiak. As the author states in Hebrews 12:27, “And this yet once more, signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things which have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.

The Fourth Commandment from creation to eternity

There are now over 500 Sabbath keeping denominations in the world that keep the true Sabbath which equates to more than 20 million people. This count continues to grow as the truth is rediscovered by those who truly love YHUH (Yahuah) with all their heart, soul and might.
The Sabbath has existed since creation when YHUH (Yahuah) added the Seventh day to the week with the one and only purpose of a Sabbath rest. This is the only reason we have a seven day week today. YHUH (Yahuah) also purified this day for set apart use. This was done before sin had entered the world and was part of our Creator's perfect plan. The word translated “rested” in our English Bibles in Genesis 2:3 is actually “shabbath” in the Hebrew and means Sabbath. Here is the word Sabbath right at creation. Saturday is also called the Sabbath in over 105 languages just as it was named at creation. This dates right back to Babel in Genesis 11, where Saturday was recognized as the Sabbath day and was incorporated into the very name of the day. In English we have the Pagan name Saturday.

The Bible says where there is no law there is no transgression (Romans 4:15) so the Ten Commandments had to exist from the very beginning or Cain could not have been guilty of murder, and since the Sabbath was sanctified and made Holy before sin at creation and the Sabbath is one of the Ten Commandments, it had to be kept by Adam and Eve. It was also kept by Abraham, it was kept in the exodus from Egypt before the Ten Commandments were given, when YHUH (Yahuah) tested to see if His children would keep all the Ten Commandments by seeing if they would keep THE Seventh day as per the Commandment. It was kept by the Jews, it was kept by Yahushua, it was kept by Paul, it was kept by the Apostles, it was kept by the early Church by both Jews and Gentiles, and this is also verified by Yahushua who showed it would be kept in 70 AD when the temple was destroyed. History also further proves this by the fact that reliable unbiased history sources show that it was still being kept around 90-120 AD where some talmidim first changed to Sunday to avoid persecution for Judaism. History shows the final change of the day began with Constantine in 321 AD in favour of Sun worship. The Sabbath was almost murdered out of existence through the dark ages when the Roman Catholic Church ruled as Church and state for those terrible 1260 dark years, and Revelation 12:17 speaks of a remnant of YHUH (Yahuah)'s original Church that would arise after these dark ages that Satan would hate and make war with because it would start keeping all of the Ten Commandments once again.

Rev 12:17  And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of YHUH, and have the testimony of Yahushua.

To top this all off, YHUH (Yahuah) showed Isaiah that we will still be keeping the Sabbath in the new shamayim and the new earth. Here is the Sabbath being kept from the beginning and throughout all eternity, which includes now.
